Thateng Ludo Johwa-Mpundisi is the new Deputy Managing Director of the International Law Enforcement
Academy (ILEA) Gaborone, Botswana. Prior to this assignment, Ludo served as the Deputy Director responsible
for academics at the Botswana Police College. Her portfolio included the development and sustenance of
professional working relationships with a range of relevant academic and training institutions within Botswana,
the region and internationally, to ensure that the Botswana Police Service remains abreast of any development
in the training and development of personnel.
She joined the Botswana Police Service in 1994 as a Cadet Inspector and went on to serve in various Police
Stations dealing with administrative tasks, general crime management, and investigation of crime. In 2001, she
joined the Botswana Police Service Development Team based at the College tasked with the onerous mandate
of overhauling the College curricula. She was then deployed in the in-service unit tasked with the design,
development and facilitation of Management & Leadership Programme for the Superintendent cadre. One of
her responsibilities included being a Programme Tutor in the Strategic Leadership Programme up to the year
2015. From the year 2006, she was given the responsibility of Quality Assurance Office which included
monitoring and evaluation of Botswana Police College programmes, analysis of evaluation data of and
recommending solutions to management. This office was also responsible for the accreditation of programmes
and trainer registration with the regulatory body and to generally assure quality of training rendered so as to
graduate police officers of a high calibre envisaged to enhance service delivery of the Botswana Police Service.
Ludo has attended various workshops and conferences in the area of police education and training with the
International Police Academies (INTERPA) and others. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Management), a
Post Graduate Diploma in Counsellor Education (PGDCE) and a Master of Education in Research and
Evaluation conferred in 1994, 2001 and 2009 respectively by the University of Botswana. She is also a
registered Trainer and Assessor with the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) and currently undergoing re-
registration as per their new requirements. In 2013, she received the “Long Service and Good Conduct” Medal
in 2013 from His Excellency the President Luitenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
